The Share ShopA library of things

Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use this site and borrow from us. Here's where we're up to, honestly.

What we're aiming for

WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

That's the standard Australian disability guidance points to.

We think we meet it on this site, but we haven't had an independent audit, so we're not claiming certification. If you find something that doesn't work, we want to know.

What we've done

The things that make a difference.

  • Every colour combination on this site was calculated before use, not judged by eye
  • Colour is never the only thing carrying meaning
  • Icons always appear with a text label
  • No accessibility overlay widgets. They don't achieve conformance and disability advocacy organisations campaign against them
  • Key information is on web pages, not locked in PDFs
  • The site is built to work at 400% zoom and on a 320-pixel-wide screen

How we tested

By hand, and with a scanner.

We checked the site using a keyboard only, at 200% and 400% zoom, at 320 pixels wide, on real iPhones and Android phones, and with an automated accessibility scanner.

We haven't tested with someone who uses a screen reader daily. That's a gap, and we'd like to fix it. If you use a screen reader and would be willing to help us test, please get in touch. We'd be glad of it, and we'd shout you a membership.

What we know isn't perfect

Three things we can't fully fix.

Booking a thing happens in MyTurn, a system we use but don't control. MyTurn's public site passed an independent WCAG 2.2 AA audit in April 2026. One known gap remains: in the date picker, you can move between months with a keyboard but not yet between individual days. MyTurn has said they're working on it.

Our inventory photos and descriptions live in MyTurn and are added by volunteers. We're working through them to add proper descriptions of every image.

Our social media is on Instagram and Facebook, which we don't control and can't fix. Anything important there is also on this site.

Tell us

If something doesn't work for you, we want to know.

If something on this site or at the shop doesn't work for you, email us. We'll reply, and we'll fix what we can.
